Corryites on liner in collision

Two Corry residents Mr and Mrs John Yonneman booked passage aboard the Holland America liner Tyndam from New York to Rotterdam. The Tyndam collided with a Norwegian freighter two hundred and fifty miles off Ambrose Light. All passengers were reported safe with most aboard the Tyndam. The couple had lived near Clymer and had traveled to New York.

Montreal Steamer Morwona Torpedoed German Sub Attack

Washington May 27 General Villa requested the State Department intervene in five Mexican men due to be executed in Arizona tomorrow The department wired the Arizona governor seeking a full report and urging commutation to life imprisonment or at least a delay to allow a government investigation into all circumstances The move follows claims the men were not given a fair trial

Good Roads Day Works Across Corry and Townships

Nearly 1,000 men and many volunteers joined Good Roads Day in Velo county and Erle county. In Corry 216 men from WW Brofexnonk and Wino of business met at the Bie Club and were driven to five surrounding townships to repair roads. Work covered Hare Creek road and old plank road along Calvimbas Avenue to Clymer, with road bed improvements, ditch cleaning, and stone work. The Corry Motor Club supervised, with town supervisors aiding. The effort showed what coordinated, local labor can achieve, and road repairs will continue under the club’s direction. The Corry Law Company donated gravel and two teams for use. Highways official Sept. of Highways Van Vivck praised the day’s value, noting restoration would exceed a $2,000 value if paid at standard wages, considering township work too.
