No decrease possible in county tax levy

Rollo McCray told county and borough assessors that the county tax rate cannot be cut despite public demand. He said 85 percent of the budget is set by law and debt service consumes most of the remainder, making reduced taxes impossible until relief needs ease and conditions improve. The meeting stressed equalizing assessments for 1934 35 and 1936, with McCray calling for maintaining total county assessments to preserve bonding power.
