Former Mental Patient Captured After 17 Hour Manhunt

In Cooperstown Pennsylvania a former mental patient Lloyd B Shuffstall 51 was found weakened by blood loss after shooting himself following a double slaying of his wife Vera Rose 47 and neighbor Harold Dupont 43. Dupont was ambushed on a dirt road while Mrs Shuffstall was killed in her bedroom. Police believe motive is unclear and a son said Dupont had been keeping company with Mrs Shuffstall.

Head-on Crash Sends Five To Corry Memorial Hospital

A head-on collision on East Main Street near William Street sent five people to Corry Memorial Hospital. Driver Barry Bugbee 18 RD 4 Corry pulled out to pass and collided with Mrs Francis Jaquith 2 Corry. Vehicle damage described as total on Bugbee car and front end damage on Jaquith car.

87 Pint Blood Donation Short of Goal

Buffalo Bloodmobile visit to Corry drew 87 pints from 69 scheduled donors, with 42 missing appointments and 44 walk in donors. Campaign chairman James St George noted 407 pints collected over 38 visits to Corry, with the next visit slated for July 5.

A White House aide said the United States initially admitted misleading information about the U2 flight to allow pilot Francis Powers a chance to escape. Robert Merriam, deputy assistant to the President, conveyed the version to a Republican women's group. The Soviets reported a crossing border and NASA and State Dept later said the 202 plane on a weather reconnaissance mission was missing.

Corry police completed use the investigation into a Sunday evening collision on Route 428 east of Corry. Howard P. Campbell 25 Fairview was westbound when 15 year old William Apthorp rode from a driveway into his path. Apthorp treated at Corry Memorial Hospital for possible left wrist fracture. Bicycle damage about $4. The second item reports an 11 foot python ate a four foot crocodile in Darwin Australia with Aborigines killing the snake and finding the crocodile remains.

Truck Auto Crash Causes $900 Damage

A wreck five miles south of Union City on a township road near Corry State Police said today a pickup truck driven by Edwin P. Williams 37 of Springboro RD 1 and an auto driven by Betty St John 23 of Union City RD 2 collided yesterday at about four o clock Williams was in the road center and St John was injured she was taken to Union City Memorial Hospital for observation. Damage totaled about 900 with 400 to the truck and 500 to the auto. Investigators said possible charges may be filed after the continued inquiry today.

Weightman Dies in Two Car Crash Near Donora

Richard Weightman, 68, of Greensburg was killed in a two car collision about one mile south of Donora PA yesterday. The crash involved another vehicle and authorities are investigating the fatality with local officials responding to the scene.

Girl Dashes Into Side Of Car Near Union City

An 8yearold girl Janet Emerson, daughter of Mr and Mrs George Emerson of Union City, ran into the side of a moving auto on Route 6 two miles west of Union City. She sustained abrasions to her left arm and leg and was treated by a Union City physician. The accident occurred yesterday afternoon as Luella Nitschke, 34, of Union City drove the car.

Rescue Pair In Ditch Collapse Near East Liverpool

Two construction workers remained in fair condition after a ditch collapse trapped them for 25 minutes. Jack Graham, 47, of East Liverpool, and Harry Cunningham, 24, of Hammondsville, were caught when walls gave way twice. Cunningham created an air space to breathe during the first cave-in. Orv (surname incomplete) was also involved.
