Leader opens his campaign for governor in Pennsylvania
Democratic nominee George M Leader formally opened his campaign with a program to revitalize Pennsylvania's industrial economy. Leader, a York County state senator, urged officials not to pursue personal aggrandizement but to do things for people unable to do for themselves. He spoke at the 27th annual convention dinner of the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women. Genevieve Blatt, candidate for secretary of Internal Affairs, accused Governor Fine of dodging district attorney questions about state employee campaign contributions to the Pine-Wood slate. Blatt cited Malone's charges that state workers were pressured to contribute to the Republican campaign in which Lt. Gov. Wood was endorsed. Leader stressed the need to revitalize industry.
