Lieutenant Robert LaPaze son of Mr and Mrs Paul LaPaze of Stiffners and grandson of William LePane, killed in a Lake Charles plane crash. LaPaze, a tail gunner, had served in combat over Germany and escaped after being shot down, later returning to duty in England. Survived by his wife, parents, two brothers Paul Jr in Navy and Jerry at home. His mother Pearl Nash also among long time residents of the city.
Harrisburg May 25 Penn sylvania's public eating and drinking places must apply for state licenses within a month under the new uniform hygiene requirement act. Enforcement will be delayed six months to allow the health department and licensees time to adjust. Dr J Moore Campbell deputy secretary of health said the delay was written into the law signed last week to give everyone time to comply.
War Finance Committee reports local bond sales reaching $200.19 toward the $960,000 city quota. Officials hope next report will show at least half of the goal achieved, with sales continuing through the week.
A large force of about 500 B 29 Superfortresses conducted a major air raid on Tokyo, striking from Marianas bases and dropping thousands of tons of bombs on Marunouchi and the Imperial government center. Paris May 25 The assembly's foreign affairs committee urged De Gaulle to sever relations with Spain and press for Pierre Laval’s removal as part of a broader effort by the Franco regime to appease Allied demands. The committee warned Franco’s government threatens world democracy and urged unified Allied action.
A soldier from Lottsville now with American forces in Germany reports meeting a German housewife who claimed to be a former Corry girl. She said she lived in Pennsylvania as a girl, then Corry, and later married a German and returned to Germany. Further details were not available today.
Laurent H. J. Bracks, 51, a former U S Naval Reserve officer, was sentenced by Judge Martimer W. Byers to nine years in federal prison on espionage and censorship charges. The two nine year terms run concurrently. Bracks, of Brooklyn, was convicted May 10 of wartime espionage and violating censorship code for alleged Axis contact.
