Chain store tax bill eyed by Harrisburg leaders vote tomorrow

A conference committee of house and senate reached a strait version of the Patterson-Stank chain store tax bill including theatres. The measure aims to raise about 1.5 million yearly for fourth class district teacher pay while theatres are taxed. The report says the inclusion should not hurt constitutionality though some doubt remains. The plan adds theatre taxes, assigns costs to the revenue department, and directs funds to the general and school funds. Gov. Baretas urged passage noting benefit to underpaid teachers and small capital firms.
