Judge Rules Nixon Overstepped Authority In Break-In
District Judge Gesell ruled Nixon lacked authority to authorize the break-in at Daniel Ellsberg’s psychiatrist’s office and did not issue a specific directive. He granted defense access to White House material for a fair trial, warned of possible dismissal if essential evidence is blocked, and denied a venue delay. Additional Watergate updates covered Saxbe backing Jaworski, IRS tax return information disputes, and House committee plans.
