Food prices to drop only if laws curb speculation
Wood warns price declines hinge on enforcing laws against speculation in food commodities or on boosting domestic production beyond current consumption. He lists sale prices for a range of items including tomatoes at 17c can and $2.04 a dozen, corn at 15c a can or $1.75 a dozen, and staples like bread, flour, butter, cheese, Crisco, laundry soap, coffee, and molasses with specific unit prices, urging customers to buy now while stock lasts.
