Ford Faces Emission Test Setback on 1973 Autos
Washington AP Ford Motor Co cannot certify its 1973 cars under current air pollution rules. Congress could change the laws to allow delivery before certification. EPA chief Ruckelshaus warned Ford would face a costly recall if standards are met or changed. Restarting tests would add at least three months and delay mass production, risking shutdowns and layoffs.
