Movement of troops halt train traffic in Britain

German air reconnaissance and troop movements crippled mainline schedules across Britain. About 50 trains were canceled as authorities warned of invasion risk while troops were restricted to certain services. Reports from Sweden claimed 47 Allied POWs were executed in Stalag Luft II during a March escape attempt.

Moose Lodge to Meet in Corry Next Sunday

The Warren Lodge Loyal Order of Moose plans a Corry gathering next Sunday to initiate members and advance the establishment of a Moose lodge. About 250 Corry residents are members with more in the area, and officials from Warren will join, including national director Stohr who will travel from Pittsburgh.

Congress rushes painless tax bill to president

In a swift response to opposition, Congress passes a major tax simplification measure aimed at streamlining the return process for about 50 million taxpayers. Allied Air Offensive Against Hitler’s Europe Intensifies

May 28 London reports a massive Allied daylight and night bombing campaign on German targets. Up to 5,000 tons of bombs hit airfields, freight yards, and other military sites across Dortmund Brunswick and western Germany as part of a renewed preinvasion air offensive. More than 3,000 Allied planes participated, including American Liberators Flying Fortresses and RAF bombers, with substantial fighter escort and strafing missions over enemy territory. In separate incident, a train wreck in Pea-Cairn, Pa. left one firefighter dead and another seriously burned.

No 4-F Survey Underway In Local Area

Local boards in Erie county have not yet mailed questionnaires to all registrants as previously reported. Union City office stated that no immediate plan exists to examine or use 4-F men who refuse work or seek discharges, though conditions could trigger action. Officials warned reexamination may occur if retin results are unsatisfactory, while the area has not faced the same widespread issues seen elsewhere.

Corry Youth Earns Air Medal for 14 Missions

Corry residents Mr and Mrs Charles Wood of 215 Second Avenue received news that their son Charles J Alexander now a staff sergeant with the American Air Force in England has completed fourteen missions over enemy territory. He has also won the Air Medal and an Oak Leaf Cluster for raids over Europe, serving from England aboard a previously mentioned bomber. Alexander attended Corry schools in youth and later finished schooling in Louisiana after the family moved.

Inquest Blames Woman in Rouse Death

An Erie county coroner's jury in Union City ruled that Mary Kulyaucuk, the woman truck driver, caused the death of Guy Rouse Jr. in a Beaverdam Wattsbury road crash last Wednesday. Coroner Warren Wourt and District Attorney Joslin led the inquest with State Police participation. witnesses included W. C. Dingle, Joseph Dingle, and Steve Hadeega. Hospital Worker Burns in Gas Oven Blast

Miss Florence Williams of Corry Hospital kitchen staff was badly burned this afternoon when gas accumulated in an oven and she lit it. Her hair was scorched and the burns were extensive. She received immediate care at the hospital.

London May 3 Mrs Daisy Moxnam wife of an RAF officer in Southend announced the birth of quadruplets three boys and a girl last night. The babies named Brian George Daisy and Willan weighed pounds and ounces, were reported well with their mother and children resting after the birth.

Memorial Day Plans Advanced by Veterans Committee

The Joint Veterans Committee finalized Memorial Day observance plans in the city. Services will be at 7 45 p m Sunday May 28 at the Baptist church conducted by Rev Francis Whiteman with veterans and auxiliaries invited to assemble at the VFW Home at 7 20 pm for a group procession.
