Distance puzzle: two walkers meet after starting apart

Two men walk toward each other at 3 and 4 mph. When they meet, the faster man has traveled 10 miles more. Their combined speed is 7 mph, and the distance equals 7 times the time to meet. The difference of distances is 10 miles, so 3t and 4t differ by 10. Solve 4t - 3t = 10 gives t = 10 hours, but that yields 70 miles total. The distance apart was 70 miles.
