Income Tax Fees Appeal Defeat in Pennsylvania Supreme Court

Harrisburg AP reports that a Lancaster group and others appeal the new 3.5 percent state income tax after Commonwealth Court upheld the levy. Judge Calls For Briefs In Sparta Merger Case

Erie County judge Edward Carney heard attorneys for the Corry Area School Jointure and Sparta taxpayers but made no injunction ruling. The dispute centers on whether the February date in the School Reorganization Act is mandatory or advisory for the merger interim operating committee. Grocery Costs Climb But Increase Slows In April

Washington AP reports April CPI up 0.3 percent led by groceries rising 0.9 percent. Housing and transportation costs edged higher while overall living costs rose less. Corry Man Honored By Reserve Unit

Senior Master Sgt. Robert M. Jolley a 55 year old Corry reservist retired after 28 years with the 914th Tactical Airlift Group honored during May weekend ceremonies at Niagara Falls Air Base. Jolley logged 270 weekend commutes since 1942 and served three years in World War II with the Flying Tigers, earning a Chennault commendation for aiding a besieged Chinese post. He recalled returning planes under heavy fire and noted long service in aircraft maintenance before civilian retirement.
