Pay raise bill signs for servicemen under Truman record
President Truman signed a bill boosting military pay and allowances by about 4 percent on base pay and 14 percent on food and rental allowances. The measure, effective with this month’s pay vouchers, increases privates wages by roughly 3 dollars monthly and scales up to four stars and admirals, though it excludes an extra 45 dollars for Korea service. The White House announced the signing, noting the raise aims to offset rising living costs.
