Slick Thieves Net $400 From Area Stores
Morvinne Chautauque County deputies and Ellicott Town Officer Elmer Widhard report two slick thieves drained 400 from two area grocers. In the first heist a clerk rang up a small purchase then the thief dumped silver, allowing 100 to be stolen from an open sash register as the clerk bent to pick up coins. About 35 minutes later the thieves repeated the trick in West Ellicott, lifting 300 from a register as the clerk paused for rolling silver.
