Landslide Halts Traffic Near Franklin After Heavy Rains
A massive landslide near Franklin blocked Erie railroad traffic and halted nearby motor routes. A. L. Pottrell, former Erie agent, set up a temporary telegraph in his water mobile to issue orders as crews worked through the night to clear the roadbed. Telegraph gear was improvised in his car and Reag Ans guided repairs until the line reopened. The slide, among the region’s largest in years, followed days of heavy rain, with earth sliding onto the road and tracks just above the works site.
