Pentagon to Cut or Eliminate Enlisted Aides for Generals

Washington AP reports the Pentagon plans to reduce or end the use of enlisted aides serving flag officers. Two training schools at Ft. Lee and Camp Lejeune are being phased out, with potential cuts in the 1700-strong aide corps and a $21.3 million annual training cost cited by GAO. Marines, Army, and Navy methods vary, and proposals seek a 20 percent reduction plus broader downsizing, amid calls for personal responsibility by officers. Also, Malaysia proposes law holding parents liable for children's drug abuse, including fines or imprisonment for negligence.
