GOP senators increasingly back the label progressive as Duff's Pennsylvania primary win shakes the Old Guard. Brewster and Wherry praise Duff’s strength, while Myers and Grundy are seen as losing figures. Aiken and Martin endorse the Duff ticket, signaling a shift toward independent voters favoring progressive Republicans.
A coroner's jury ruled that 89 year old Thors Nem man died from swallowing a toothpick which pierced a blood vessel in his intestines causing a fatal hemorrhage. The incident occurred in London on May 18.
A B-29 crashed at Lagens Field Azores during a flight from Bermuda to England. The plane burned quickly after impact killing 10 onboard and 6 more died later. The crew of 1 and five passengers were aboard with engine trouble diverting to Dagens Mold.
Washington May 18 The Truman bloc faces fresh headaches as Senate moves to vote on plans to reorganize federal agencies. Holland may push a vote on the agriculture department power change while Hawing Johnson oppose more reorganizations. Two other plans to liquidate NLRB general counsel and place the currency controller under Treasury were rejected. The 60 day deadline for all plans looms with disapproval votes required to kill any proposal.
The E U B Church in Cory announces a Sunday dedication for the new two story ten room education unit and parsonage costing about 45500. Rev J Balmer will lead services with Dr Paul Weaver and Bishop Showers as guest speakers. Public invited to inspect the buildings during an open house.
Barbara J. Brown of North Center street is among 162 Pennsylvanians named among 1 seven college graduates chosen by the Army for direct WAC commissions. They will be appointed lieutenants but on inactive status until called to Fort Lee Virginia on September 7 for six months of training. Brown is an Emersio College graduate.
Miss Christine Harbour, Red Cross field representative, will speak to Corry Chapter volunteers on the National Blood Program. The event at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church parish hall includes motor service, staff aid, canteen, and gray ladies volunteers. A sound film will be shown.
Chicago May 1 Ten mid west railroads face a threatened walkout by AFL Switchmen's Union of North America over wage terms. About 8,000 workers could strike for 48 hours, affecting lines including Chicago Great Western and Northern Pacific.
The Mills of Sugar Grove welcomed twin babies at Corry Hospital last evening. A boy and girl arrived within four hours of each other, the boy at 9 40 p m and the girl shortly after. Mother Irene Millar, 98, is reported in good health. The jailer of Lim wring died two months ago.
Washington reports that the United States and Britain may issue separate protests to Moscow after ministers meeting in Latoon discuss Russia arming an east German police tower. Officials say talks stressed avoiding actions that could provoke a larger security crisis in Western Europe.

State police in Gorey are investigating the traffic death of John B. Briggs, 8, of Waterford, BC, who died after being hit by a car on Route 10. Vincent J. Lapstio, 23, of Mondville, was driving the vehicle. investigators say Briggs walked onto the highway from the south and struck him as cars were parked along the road. The driver could not avoid impact due to traffic and roadside conditions. Deputy Carorice Fanny Musser of Walon City was summoned. authorities say the death appears accidental and the driver is not facing charges at this time.
Democrats in Harrisburg plan a statewide meeting on May 31 to map a campaign strategy for the fall, aiming to counter the Republican ticket led by Gov. James House and John S. Fine. Maurier Splith Jr. top state chairman, notes preparations include recordings of GOP speeches for fall use.

Damages estimated at 400 to the car and 150 to the truck. Akam reported serious injuries with possible knee damage. Reynolds sustained injuries but was not as severely hurt.
A 20 year old man, Jer sey Caldwell of Marlon street, accuses Chase York street and two unidentified youths of assault near the Yatersecion of West Washington street and First avenue about 10 Mo tsr night. Caldwell claims the group stopped a car and beat him as he walked home, leaving him with several bruises though not seriously hurt.
Dispatches from London report Romania accusing the United States of spying and demanding reduction of the U S legation in Prague. Dr HB Mosier was elected president of the Erie County Dental Society by about 40 county dentists at the Moose Club in Erie. Other officers include O M Baker as president, Kel Davis as secretary, and P Darbenspeck as treasurer. Those elected will assume office soon.
Western powers plan a high command to block Communism and set up a permanent council with a deputy from among 12 Atlantic pact nations. The group will coordinate defense measures, rearming schedules, and final military plans to deter Russian aggression.
