Grapes Seen as Hope for Erie County Crops
Erie county farm agent Paul Crossman says grapes are the real hope of the 1948 fruit crop after a two week Trust condition survey. Vines buds and wood are in exceptionally good condition and, barring more bad weather, vineyards should yield well. He notes hardy buds survived low temperatures and that peaches east of the city look good while western districts are sparse. Cherries will be scarce with only 15 to 20 percent of buds surviving. apples eastern orchards slight, western crop minor.
