Fayette Officials Convicted In Fuel Purchase Case
Four Fayette county officials were convicted on four counts of misconduct in office after a seven hour jury deliberation. Commissioners Rankin Higinbotham and Karoleth and Controller Montgomery were found guilty over fuel purchases totaling more than 100000 gallons from Center Gas Co over four years without written contracts or bids. Each count carried up to 500 dollars fine. Defense argued bids were unnecessary for items under 300 dollars. Special Deputy Attorney General Marche led the prosecution.
