Westfield Board Adopts Road Abandonment Plan

At a Westfield town board meeting a hearing on abandoning a portion of South Portage Road known as Dead Man's Curve was unanimously adopted and declared closed. The stretch, about a half mile from Route 17, remained treacherous despite a new bridge last fall and heavy tourist use persisted. The flood season earlier washed the curve’s right bank by about four feet, further endangering travel.
