Kissinger Seeks Partial Israel Syria Pact Amid Wall of Differences
Kissinger aides say he will try for a partial troop disengagement pact between Israel and Syria starting with talks with Prime Minister Golda Meir and other Israeli leaders and a session with Syrian President Hafez Assad in Damascus on Saturday. The effort follows a seven hour meeting with Syrian officials and stresses narrowed but highly emotional gaps. In Vietnam, North Vietnamese forces reportedly occupy Dak Pek near the Laotian border, with over 300 South Vietnamese troops and more than 3,000 civilians missing. Radio contact with Dak Pek was cut, and a nearby ranger camp was seized.
