Historic Stagecoach Stopover Reopens for Travelers
The Johnson Tavern built in 1831 on the Pittsburgh Erie route near Mercer Pennsylvania will reopen as a historic site. The two story stone building six miles south of Mercer on Rt 19 was restored with a grant from the Henderson Foundation and transferred to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The state Historical and Museum Commission will operate the dry tavern with period furnishings during a Saturday dedication featuring Dr Maurice Goddard and other officials.
