A Camden federal court jur y acquitted Cyell LaBrecque of negligence in the deaths of Bradford Blakely and Paul Sigurino after a lengthy trial. LaBrecque, 52, of Santa Anna California, faced charges tied to a lifeboat incident on the ship Wetherfield Conn on January 8 1974. The jurors found him not guilty while recounting the perilous conditions that kept survivors in the water for hours in 43 degree weather. The case centered on whether LaBrecque should have sacrificed the dog to save crew and passengers.
Edinboro resident Okey Boggs was bound over to the grand jury on a murder charge for the April 2 death of Orville Hull, a former Corry man. Witnesses testified Huff threatened Boggs and Boggs claimed self defense as he fired from his mobile home. A pathologist testified that three bullets struck Hull, with a fourth hitting his chest.
The jury of eight women and four men found George Yott James Learn and Donald Chant guilty of raping an Erie woman after abducting her in Carry on January 10. They drove her to Eric's Ramada Inn where the assaults occurred following a lengthy nine hour deliberation.
