Communique from Southeast Asia Command says patrols of the 2nd Division advance along the coast in Burma reaching a point 25 miles north of Gwa. Gwa lies about 100 miles northwest of Rangoon. Japanese forces are reported to be repelled as the British continue the Burma push along the coast.
An Erie jury found Albert Marty of Ublselby guilty of robbery after a trial in which prosecutors presented no eyewitnesses and defense questioned testimony. Marty’s attorney moved for a new trial and arrest of judgment. bond was set pending decision. The case stemmed from an incident at Brewer’s place on West Main Street. The proceedings included testimony from witnesses Ted Dey and John Howlett, plus defense witnesses and a stenographer. Marty claimed he was owed money and that other parties influenced the events. Also included is a Treasury report snippet with May 12 figures showing receipts and expenditures.
British forces press a wide search for Heinrich Himmler, Gestapo chief, centered on Flensburg. Allied and Soviet leaders pledge pursuit as Moscow and Paris coordinate to bring war criminals to trial, stressing nations of Russia Poland and Czechoslovakia have a stake in justice.
Associated Press reports Moscow says Red Army killed or captured about 12.77 million enemy troops in four years of war on the eastern front and took over 1.23 million prisoners. The note also mentions German surrender, Gestapo hunt for Hitler, and Allied actions in securing arms in channel islands.
President Truman said he hoped to meet with Prime Minister Churchill and Premier Stalin to discuss the future peace program. He noted he talked with Foreign Minister Eden about a possible meeting but no definite decision was made and he did not expect it to be immediate.

Paris France dispatch details Lyle Foster former Worry resident and Red Cross officer held by Germans after December capture. He describes starvation rationing bread and soup with worms and maggots, and efforts to contact his Ottumwa wife as he nears home. Foster, in a rest camp near Hunningen with the 99th Division, was captured with U.S. officers and enlisted men.
Board of Education session extended late as members approved past minutes and a 48722.50 balance, elected three teachers, and considered tax collections for 1930 and 1931. G. H. Gordon ordered to pursue legal action to recover arrears. A Bell and Howell moving projection unit was bought for 437.67, plus supplies for the shop. Mr and Mrs R G Taylor of Salem arrived by giomobile from Pittsburgh to find Dolores Jean Sutton age 14 who had been missing since May 10. State Police wives had sought information then Salem residents located the girl at the Corry home and she agreed to return with them. The absence was blamed on companionship formed during a Salem visit.
The War Mortgage Committee organized by Corry High seniors plans a big Army show presented by Livelind Pict next Monday to support the seventh loan drive. A 100 bond buys four show tickets. 1000 bond earns a pie. A large gift display will rise in the business section as progress markers light up. Local leaders aim to boost EB bond sales before the Army display featuring veterans and equipment arrives.
The Ajax Fron Works announces a revised schedule affecting the foundry and machine shop. Day shifts will run from seven to four thirty with a half hour for noon, while the night shift moves to five p.m. to two a.m. with a similar meal break. Operations end on Saturdays as soon as possible.
Alfred McAvoy 18 son of Mr and Mrs William McAvoy of Wasco was rescued after his arm and hand were burned when he fell into an electric stream while crossing a farmer’s fence near Elgin. Rob Burrows quickly shut off the current and Mrs Burrows took him to Carry Hospital for treatment. His condition is reported satisfactory and he may be discharged soon.
Washington May 15 Government overtake of anthracite pits sparks new delivery controls as miners refuse to return. About 72,000 idle since May 1 as striking workers persist. Government seized pits on May 3 with limited effect.
News reports confirm Pvt. Gene Stranahan of Spartansburg and Pvt. Bernard Morris of Rowie Township have been released from German captivity after 27 months as prisoners of war. Their families, Mrs B Stranahan and Mrs Clyde Merri, received official messages via Red Cross noting both men are under American military control and will be returned home as soon as feasible.
The Herald says a three powers meeting among Truman Churchill and Chiang Kai-shek could address outstanding war issues and maybe create combined Allied credits for Japan's defeat. Chinese forces press in Hunan and on the eastern coast free Foochew with moves toward Panching as Japanese positions weaken. Dr Leon Pelderman, 54, Philadelphia ear nose and throat specialist died at his home.
London reports a British spokesman dismissed claims that Marshal Tito was ordered to withdraw Yugoslav troops from Istria and Trieste as exaggerated. He said Trieste would remain under Allied control until the peace conference settles its status and that the Yugoslav government was informed through Belgrade envoys in an atmosphere of frankness.
