College girl survives rare heart lung operation
An 18 year old student from Wilkes Barre underwent a 43 minute procedure at Jefferson Medical College Hospital using a machine to perform heart and lung work. Surgeons described the first such functioning of the device. Miss Cecelia Bavolek, with a large atrial septal defect, is recovering and may be able to go home within two weeks.
