In St Louis on May 1, H D Taylor of Charleston was jailed for thirty days after failing to appear as a witness in a contempt proceeding. Judge Wright warned of further days if he interrupted. Taylor argued but the judge upheld a month behind bars as he had been summoned for another case involving alleged hootlegery.
In Victoria British Columbia on May 18 a long running boycott against all Japanese ships was declared. The Nippon Union line Iwata Maru left Yokohama for Puget Sound ports carrying forty two Chinese passengers and freight. The boycott has inflated costs and diverted commerce to other lines over the past two years.
Dayton reports no merit from Wright brothers for a flight from Dayton to Chicago and no consideration of Orville Wright joining his brother on a New York jump. the referenced arrangement appears unconfirmed and unacted upon.
New York May 13 jury in a long United States court case returned a not guilty verdict after just over two hours. Foreman Lovell announced the verdict as supporters from Butte cheered wildly, with family members in attendance behind the defendant. The scene erupted in the courtroom before Judge Hough adjourned, leaving Heinze acquitted.
In South Norwalk Connecticut Miss Comstock objected to her cat Tom being listed in the census. Local residents cite a request to erase the pet’s name from records and a threat to sue the government for libel after Tom was counted and sent toward Washington.

In Brooklyn, eight children aged 9 to 14 testified in Manhattan Avenue court against Mary Jackson of 288 Hurton Street charging she lured street children to a furnished rooming house for exploitation. Henry Abel, a butcher, faced related charges after being linked to a 12 year old among the alleged victims. Jackson posted $2,000 bail and Abel was held without bail as prosecutors prepared to proceed.
In Berlin on May 13 Colonel Roosevelt was awarded the degree of doctor of philosophy honoris causa by the University of Berlin. The ceremony featured greetings between Roosevelt, Kaiser Wilhelm II, and university officials. Roosevelt’s speech, though hoarse, was delivered clearly as he addressed the assembled crowd and university roster.
In Grand Marais Minnesota on May 1 John B. Plying and his wife with a month old baby and six other children aged up to ten are hospitalized after a fire. They fled with only the clothes on their backs during the blaze between here and Power Shile? lost items unknown.
Palodo Hinde complains about failed attempts to obtain items and credit. The dialogue mocks regulators and expresses frustration over unavailable goods and services.
Minneapolis May 13 David Jayne Hill American ambassador to Germany and Dain Jchn Reed of the Academy College of Literature and Arts Michigan University are being considered for the presidency of Minnesota State University. President Cyrus Northrop says the board has not communicated with Hill and does not know if he would accept. He notes possible agreement with regents regarding Hitt and Dean Reed.
