Plot to Kill McNamara in Viet Nam Uncovered in Saigon

South Vietnamese authorities say a Communist plot to kill U.S. Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara was uncovered as three men were arrested while attempting to mine a bridge on his Saigon route. US Ambassador Lodge was to accompany him. no alternate plans disclosed.

Shaky Peace Restored To Railroads

In Chicago a federal court injunction stopped a wildcat walkout by railroad workers ending the five year dispute over work rules. The Pennsylvania Railroad halted the strike after 40 workers reported sick and 120 more called in Sunday. Earlier firemen struck seven hours and twenty minutes against New York Central at Mattoon Illinois. Union officials advised workers that the walkouts were unauthorized as arbitration cuts hundreds of firemen jobs had been implemented.

Hoffa Jury Pick Ends Two-Week Battle for Trial

After two weeks of bickering, an eight man four woman jury and two alternates were empaneled for James R. Hoffa's 204 million fraud and conspiracy case in U.S. District Court. The 28 count indictment accuses Hoffa as Teamsters Union pension fund trustee of conspiring to obtain 20 million in loans and diverting 1 million for personal use. The panel, including one Black juror, faced isolation in guarded hotel rooms with limited calls as defense moved for mistrials over venue and juror questioning.

Tidioute Man Critically Injured In Route Crash

A 39 year old Tidioute man Harold Mealy was critically injured when his car left the Corry-Spring Creek road east of Corry and struck a tree. He was admitted to Corry Memorial Hospital with skull and facial fractures and a dislocated shoulder. Damages to the station wagon were about 250 dollars. Possible charges are pending.
