Harrisburg AP reports Governor Shapp’s proposed budget totals about 8.3 billion with a 600 million rise driven by boosts to education and welfare programs. Automatic increases amount to roughly 242 million, while 150 to 200 million more would fund higher caseload driven aid and public assistance.
This year’s post prom party faces funding shortfall with costs around 1100 dollars and only 3500 received. appeal letters are out and donations are slow. Contributions may be given to Mrs. Harry Scheimer at Citizens Corry Office of the Marine Bank or to any committee member before the May event.

State Police pursue a weekend theft of a tractor trailer's wheel loader valued at 52000 from a site along Route 19 near Meadville. The owner Clarence Hafer of Geneva reported the rig missing. investigators say no new leads yet while the case continues.
Sparta Merged School District fights a merger with Corry. The district canceled a public budget viewing ad but the Titusville Herald printed it. Sparta’s Erie attorney Jack Wingerter plans injunctions and a mandamus to challenge interim merger committee meetings. The February 15 deadline is disputed as advisory by the Corry committee. Legal action expected soon with uncertain impact.
