Merger of Erie Italian Banks Declared Illegal
A judge ruled the 1921 merger of Bank of Italy and American State Bank illegal. The combined entity will be dissolved and loans restored to two separate banks. Bank president Pasqualiino said deposits would be covered and the Bank of Italy would reopen. A petition to dissolve the merger was filed in 1938 by Mary Mayers.

Harrisburg May 10 The Commonwealth faces a dismal fiscal chapter, State Treasurer Charles A Waters told the Tailors Association of Pennsylvania. He estimates a 201,000 shortfall to balance the 1939-47 budget due to unemployment relief and past burdens, warns of higher taxes and urges eliminating unnecessary government units. He notes 450,000 Pennsylvania families on relief and calls for constructive solutions to unemployment through insurance respecting workers and employers.
