Stock Prices Rally Amid Broad Market Lift
New York May 10 Stocks rose up to five points as the market advanced on renewed optimism in key industries. The dollar eased slightly while investors looked past inflation fears to the prospect of continued gains in manufacturing output and consumer demand. The weekly and April totals indicated stronger steel and automotive sectors, with a late rally aided by approval of a major bill. Notable gainers included American Can, General Motors, and Westinghouse, among others, as prices closed mixed but generally higher.
