Sofocirous, on probation for a $14,788 Norfolk Navy commissary burglary, was driving with three companions convicted in the crime when the device blew on the city street.
More than 400 Civil Defense Workers and volunteers joined a joint Erie and Crawford County spring exercise centered in Cambridge Springs. Local forces guarded the airstrip and Cambridge Springs High School evacuee housing while two planes landed, one grounded overnight. Medical supplies were airdropped and retrieved for use. An Erie rescue truck righted aCorry vehicle that slid into a ditch. no major injuries reported.
A Sherman couple, Mr and Mrs William H Phear, were admitted to Corry Memorial Hospital after a two car crash in Butler yesterday morning. They were en route from Florida to Sherman when their car collided with another. Mrs Phear, 72, suffered a possible fracture of the left knee and jaw and multiple contusions. Mr Phear, 71, sustained injuries to the right ankle and other contusions. Their condition was reported as satisfactory.
