The Erie Association for Retarded Children will stage two public programs in Corry. Dr Gertrude Barker will speak tonight at Corry Hospital for area nurses, and Thursday at the YMCA a panel discussion for the public. Corry Ministers Association selected Rev Elmer Ortner to deliver the 1962 Baccalaureate address at Corry High School. Ortner, whose son graduates and who has a temporary Swedish exchange son Lennirh Hammarberg, both Class of 1969, are involved. The ministers announced a community sing at First Methodist Church on May 20 at 8 pm with city churches participating, followed by a ministers and wives meeting at a nearby place.

Unlikely Photo Wins Pulitzer For 1962 Best Shot
AP photographer Paul Vathis won a Pulitz er Prize for the April 1961 image captioned Serious Steps showing President Kennedy and former President Eisenhower walking apart after the failed Cuban invasion attempt. The lonely scene, captured with a long lens at Camp Davis Maryland, drew congratulations from Gov. David Lawrence. Vathis, born 1925 in Mauch Chunk Pa, began as a copy boy in Philadelphia before rising to wire photo editor and photographer in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Job Placement Averages 30 Per Month in Corry
William Michiel, head of the Corry office of the Pennsylvania State Employment Service, reports averages of about 30 job placements per month since the start of the year. In April 31 applicants were placed, mainly in industrial plants, with 104 new applications and 59 openings noted. 19 openings remained. Current openings include tool and die maker, lathe operator, supervisor, housekeepers, and odd jobs. Industry appears to stay strong and unemployment compensation plans are lower than a year ago.
