A Sparta area taxpayer group formed to oppose merging Sparta Merged School District with the Corry Area School Jointure. At a Grange Hall meeting in Spartansburg over 100 residents heard progress on an Erie County injunction plan. Young named president, Delorese Firth secretary, Donna Stanbro treasurer. Actions include contacting Governor Shapp, hiring an Erie County attorney, and arranging fundraisers by Sparta ninth graders to cover legal costs.

Registrar reports Corry Memorial Hospital saw 379 births in 1970 up from 340 in 1969, a 39 rise, with 137 deaths last year versus 130 in 1969. Heart disease remained top killer with 56 deaths. cancer second with 41. Of 137 total deaths, 132 were Corry residents, two stillbirths noted, and a minor share from Elgin Concord Township and Wayne Township. Also mention of rising farm milk prices and dairy income prospects.
