Coast Guard to Pay Boat Owner for Craft Loss
Federal judge orders the Erie Coast Guard to compensate Paul J. Geertson and Donald Hogan for injuries after a towing mishap near the Erie Bay on September 25, 1949. The ruling finds the Coast Guard grossly negligent in handling the distress call that allowed a 23 foot inboard craft to slam into a heavy plank, injuring the owner and a 14 year old bystander.
