State Award May Cost Extra $50,000
ERIE May 7 The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania plans to pay nearly $50 000 more than necessary for a new Penn State College power plant. C M Woolworth secretary of property and supplies will award the contract to the Dravo Company of Pittsburgh at 161 000 though the Erie City Iron Works and two other firms can supply the same equipment for 108 000 or less. Bids opened showed all bidders except Dravo objected to a technicality in the specs. Woolworth says the technicality would cost the state the difference between the 108 000 Erie bid and the 151 000 Dravo offer.
