Governor Pinchot announced a $6,000,000 rural road improvement program to create about 1,000 miles of enhanced roads and provide employment for hundreds of workers. The plan, funded by Motor Fund receipts, will be overseen by the state highway department and aim to maximize job creation across Pennsylvania.
A woods fire on the hill at Shady Side threatened a row of summer cottages along Findley Lake but was controlled before 3 PM. Firefighters from Corry, North East, Sherman and Clymer, aided by volunteers, held back the flames that swept a large wooded area, with cottages saved and the blaze confined to the wooded strip above the old Assembly grounds.

Nogales Arizona May 7 Justice Department agents reported the capture of a man believed to have kidnapped Jene Robles. He said the six year old daughter of Fernanda Robles is held with an accomplice in a shack in the border area described as desolate canyons and hills on the Mexican side.
A fire at a Latrobe lumber yard operated by George B. Ander and Sons caused an estimated 240000 in damage after a wire-related blaze spread through the yard yesterday. Fire officials worked through the night to prevent further spread and assess the site.
Hollywood star Jean Harlow announces separation from Harold G Rosson, her eighth month elopement husband. She plans a divorce, saying they are not compatible though he is a fine man. Rosson has moved out, while Harlow stays with her mother and stepfather in Brentwood.
Chicago May 7 a lagging search for Joh Dillinger and his gang with only doubtful traces since battles two weeks ago in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota was spurred today by the arrival of Joseph B Keenan master federal prosecutor He said he came to Chicago mainly in connection with Samuel Insull s return as a prisoner Observers note combined police federal and sheriff forces press the action with 40 man Raids and 250 police officers stationed around the city as telephone wires are tapped and men sit with earphones on two hour shifts around the clock
Cassius R. Hammond, once a Corry boy, will represent Gainesville Georgia at a White House reception for President Franklin D Roosevelt Wednesday at 7 pm. The Warm Springs Foundation Fund will be presented. Hammond, invited by Henry L Doherty, has chaired Gainesville Birthday Bank efforts for the President and led fundraising for the Foundation. He also serves as president of the Gainesville Rotary Club which hosts this week’s district Rotary gathering in Georgia.
WUELHEIM Germany May 7 Eighty workmen were imprisoned underground when a short circuit caused a fire in a potash mine in Guggingen. Local rescue efforts under way as flames trapped miners and emergency crews rushed to the scene.
Washington May 7 United Press tests on the Macon dirigible take place over the Caribbean in the largest water flight yet. The results will largely shape the government's future lighter-than-air policy after the Akron disasters. The Macon, sister ship, undergoes rigorous operation tests to determine safety and design factors.
London reports Britain will not interfere if Sultan Saud annexes Yemen after Italian and British communications on the war. The exchange concerns whether Italy supplied Yemen with arms, with assurances from an official in Taqq Baudt about securing foreign protection in a key city and reinforcing troops.

Pittsburgh May 7 United Press Judge P Schoonmaker dismissed the suit of Donald St Pierre against James Heim Kane for more than 30000 alleging an oral agreement not to sue. The judge held no jurisdiction as St Pierre was a nonresident of Kane. St Pierre claimed Elmira New York citizenship.
