Tariff Bill Faces uncertain Senate fate on anniversary
The Hawley Smooth tariff bill marks its one year since House introduction as Senate leaders mull a conference report. Smoot seeks a single vote on the report amid possible rejection over items like hides feathers shoes aluminum and pig iron. If rejected the bill returns to conference, delaying key export debt and flexible tariff debates. The report follows the Parker Supreme Court confirmation vote.
