The administration tariff bill, aimed at modernizing the 19% Powell‑McCumber act, was introduced in the House by Chairman Hawley. Five Proyed military aviators were killed when one wing of their aircraft collapsed during bombing practice at Aboard Field near Bourges. The wreckage contained two unexploded bombs, delaying removal of the bodies until morning until extraction posed risk of detonation.
The Ladies Auxiliary of Corry Hospital plans a tag day Saturday May 11 to raise funds for the hospital. Volunteers from the city will assist in selling tags. The event aligns with National Hospital Day observed May 12 and the hospital will open for public inspection on Sunday with a favorable program arranged by Ruth Clyburn superintendent.
Mrs. Mary Polchak, 40, of Union City, was hospitalized with several fractured ribs and severe knee lacerations after a collision on the highway just north of Union City. A car driven by PM White of Hifle tried to pass the buggy drawn by four horses, causing Polchak to be thrown and the rig to be demolished.

Rey Sonne of Titusville, well known in the city, is charged withmanslaughter and murder in an auto accident that killed Edward Briggs of Waterford on March 26. The case was re submitted to the Erie grand jury after the panel had returned not a true bill earlier. District Attorney Herbst sought renewal of representation to the grand jury, which will reconvene. Witnesses included Titusville City Clerk George A Hughes.
A Pennsylvania Railroad northbound passenger train struck an auto carrying six people near Sturgis Michigan. Five occupants were killed instantly and a sixth died en route to hospital. Victims included Earl Wand and his family. one child died shortly after. Bodies were found within blocks of the scene.
Governor Fisher signed eight measures and vetoed eleven in Harrisburg today. One approved bill would replace the present county workhouse system with ten industrial farms, and another would divide the state into ten districts with Philadelphia and Allegheny as the first two. The measure requires unanimous county consent to take effect, while a vetoed Mansfield proposal would have consolidated districts and allowed group life and health insurance across local governments. The governor said the Mansfield bill’s provisions were unlikely to be adopted soon and warned against resource depletion in schools.
Gov. Fisher approved appropriations for 90 state aided homes totaling 625750. Budget plans requested 850000. The governor reduced the total granted by the general assembly by 75100. Armies had earlier received 600300, with a peak of 722000 in 1921.

Crawford Washington May 7 Hany Stacisir millionaire oil magnate and stockman woke in jail with fewer privileges than before on the first day of a 90 day sentence for contempt of the Senate Teapot Dome Investization committee. He was acquitted of conspiracy with Albert B Fall but is jailed for refusing to answer questions. He also faces six months for jury shadowing at his trial with Fall but appeals to the Supreme Court. A dejected Sinclair walked through the jail doorway at 8145.
The Wheelock School commencement program will feature assistance from members of Ye High School and the High School girls sextette. Miss Euteile Murry will conduct the orchestra. The sextette comprising Paulson French McGrath Kamps Rauscher and Merrick will perform at the County Federation of Women's Clubs meeting in Brie on Friday May 17 with the numbers broadcast on Briie stations.
A May term grand jury in Erie County returned a true bill against three Minneapolis residents Sam Bard Fred Halverson and Joseph Invie on charges tied to the shooting of State Highway Patrolman Russell J Swanson near North East The officer died after stopping the trio following a brake test An attempt to kill Halverson by gunshot failed leaving him wounded Bard confessed to firing the fatal shot as Swanson rode behind the suspects car on the lake road Police captured Halverson soon after and Bard and Invie were arrested after abandoning their car near the North East rail line
A Navy balloon race entry went missing during the national elimination event with hopeful pilots Eadie Hill and A G Selos reported in contact. Lieut Thomas G W Selke and Ensign Blifred Bushnell landed the Navy No 1 balloon near Charlottetown setting a 43 hour 20 minute air record and a 900 mile distance record. The other ten racers landed at various coastal points amid storms. Coalitions of details emerged as crews reported storms and positions along the Atlantic route.
