PRR Plans Coal Storage Yard At Erie
The Pennsylvania Railroad revived plans for a multi million dollar expansion at Erie bayfront to extend the Cascade Docks and create storage yards for up to 1,200 railroad cars. The project, estimated between 5 to 7 million dollars, would extend several hundred feet into the bay and may include reclaiming land along Walnut Street, with construction not yet dated. The jet airliner Comet returned to Britain from a South Africa refueling flight, completing the first jet passenger service. The onward trip clocked 1 hours 35 minutes, return 11 hours 56 minutes.
