The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture reported the overall index of prices received by farmers fell by three points for the month ending April 15. Secretary William L Henning noted the decline lagged the national increase, mainly due to lower milk and chicken prices, with the April 14 reading at 227 percent of the 1910-14 base. Rapid midsummer growth follows warm temperatures, and meat, cherry and peach blossoms delayed by cold weather are expected to bloom this weekend.

A soldier, absent from duties for 80 days, was tracked from a boat plinth job where he worked weeks, with poor attendance flagged at civilian work. Normal procedure calls for notifying authorities when a soldier’s known homes are AWOL.
