Warren Democrats will hold a March meeting at the Y-Teen Room to designate a candidate for Democratic county chairman as factions vie for control. A reorganizational session is planned after the primary election, with a contested county slate and anticipated leadership struggle.
Corry School District officials prepare for a special session to consider a large taxpayers group proposal replacing a 5 bond issue with a tax increase. Plans call for a 2.4 mill property tax rise and a per capita levy boost to balance the budget. Nearby, the Corry nine faces Sherman in baseball as May 17 games loom. City posts include Captain J.D. Bentley named city pistier with Westley as assistant. Giz Commission approves 4700 for street lighting repair and city building needs.
A funeral Mass for Kathryn Neylon was held at St Schomad Church at 9 this morning with Rev. John DeSand officiating. The service followed by prayers at the Bracken Friend Home. Bearers included relatives Donald Neylon Arthur Neylon Frederick Bartholme Paul Taylory Frank Ferry and James P Sullivan. Entombment in St Thomas Cemetery. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Frederick Bartholme Union City Mrs Clarence Baker Paul Baker and James Haugh Spartansburg.
Henry O. Huckestein and wife claim they filed a protest with Warren County courts over alleged illegal voting in the Watson Township area primary. Returns show Huckesteins defeated by one vote. Ray Nicholson and Nellie Nicholson reportedly elected, a claim denied by Mrs. Huckestein.
Jamestown crime in 1955 fell to 261 incidents, the lowest in nine years, the FBI Uniform Crime Reports show. Police Chief John Paladino credits community cooperation, police liaison programs, and public vigilance for the drop, noting better home lighting and crime alertness. The city is divided into four sectors with a prowl car in each, and foot patrols increased. A notable case remains the 1951- era murders of Beverly Reade and her infant daughter Lynn. Joseph Reade is appealing a conviction. Other crime categories also declined.
The Civil Aeronautics Board recommends Allegheny Airlines operate between Erie Pennsylvania and Detroit for five years and Lake Central Airlines on a route from Youngstown Ohio via Erie to Buffalo New York for five years. If unopposed, Fredericks plan expects the full board to approve, denying Mohawk and North Central competing bids. The Allegheny extension could boost local service between Erie and Detroit, offering greater airline flexibility and direct service for New York and Pennsylvania elites, with Jamestown Warren Oil City Franklin and Bradford cited as covered cities.
