Veteran of African and European theaters commits suicide in Jamestown
May veterans from the U S Air Corps, recently discharged in January, killed himself with a .22 rifle in the garage of his Jamestown home. Coroner Bowers and police recovered a letter from his sister Mary LaPlena dated May 4, explaining distress over civilian life and advising authorities to protect the family from the body. The letter, written April 27, urged authorities on where to find the body and requested delivery to police, with the body removed before the family entered the scene. The man was last seen around 1:25 a.m. on May 4, and a note to his mother was reportedly included.

Mother Loses Custody Fight Over Four-Year-Old Daughter
In Pittsburgh on May 2 Mrs Helen Truan of Timblin Jefferson county lost a bid for custody of her four year old daughter Martin Pearl Truan after a hearing before Judge Thomas M Marshall. Mrs Truan said the Friskys had no permanent custody intention and cited a May 11 1945 paper by Mrs Truan turning the child over to the Friskys for adoption.
