Utilities Fight Shifts Tax On Electricity
Three percent tax on electric power would move from consumer to utility under a bill. United Press reports Hagenah of the Electric Light Institute denounced the plan as vicious and bearable, noting the 3% levy was imposed on consumers in 1932 and would be hard for utilities to absorb through higher rates. The House earlier voted to shift the levy to producers, a step Hagenah said would hinder service development due to competitive market conditions.
