Corry Rotary Club discussed a citywide Independence Day celebration at Hotel Corry. An all day program of recreation patriotic events and entertainment was suggested with coordination with the Kiwanis Club and others. Guests Gary D. Pettit from New York City and Arthur Dewey of Ripley attended the meeting.
Notices issued Monday announce the Corry Hospital School for Nurses commencement at the Junior High School Friday evening May 11. Five graduates are Isabelle Muotinger Mildred Munsee Alice Nelson Mildred Young Virginia Carlon. Programs include Burkhardt Orchestra, Rev A Roth address Milon L Brown diploma awards L W Olds Nightingale Pledge Mian Kerns solo J H Wright etc with reception and dance to follow expectations of large attendance.
A fire yesterday afternoon destroyed two structures on the George S. Chase farm on Concord Ridge including the residence. Estimated loss about 1,900 dollars with additional damage to grainery and hen house. Residents urged to join spring Clean-Up and remove refuse, abiding by city rules and cooperating with removal crews.
Mary Jimne proprietress of the Antler Hotel on West Main street was fined 25 dollars and costs for disorderly conduct by Police Magistrate this morning. The arrest occurred about two weeks ago and was the second at that location in a week. Her mother and Stanley Malek, arrested at the same time, were fined 1 dollar and costs. James Drought traveled to Tioneata, Pa, for a day of business.
Six people drown when a skiff ferry overturned in the Hooded Monongahela River near Masontown Pennsylvania. A white girl Mary Gaddis 16 was rescued clinging to a tree. Robert Konhiedy a ferryman was found unconscious but revived. Drowned were Zenith Gaddis 29 and three Black children plus a Black man and woman. The overturned boat was a substitute ferry struck by a floating tree.
Eight year old Jimmy Lundy, son of Mr and Mrs Louis Lundy of West Church Street, was struck by an arrow while playing with neighborhood boys on West Pleasant Street and fell from a height. He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital, eye sliver removed, doctors hope sight may be saved though outcome uncertain for days.
At a special session the council ordered a flag pole erected at the northwest corner of the municipal building on South Center street so national colors can be displayed by Memorial Day. Ellis Harvey won the sidewalk construction contract for the city for the coming year, with work to begin promptly. A few other topics were informally discussed, including enforcement of municipal regulations and other routine matters. In a separate Pittsburgh report, Carnegie Steel announced a personnel change effective today by President William Clare.

California Democrats and Republicans hold primaries to decide the California delegation to the National Democratic convention. The three cornered contest among Gov. Alfred Smith Senator Thomas J. Walsh and Senator James A Read will reveal national strength. The country awaits Hoover’s expected vote as well.
New York welcomed Baron Gunther Von Huenefeld and two comrades after their North Atlantic Bremen flight. The trio toured a city filled with joy, planned lectures and a birthday celebration at the Ritz Carlton, followed by a municipal dinner. They will visit Washington to receive honors.
Word was received in the city of the death of DeHart A Wright age 70 former resident of West Spring Creek who was fatally injured when the school bus he drove was struck by a New York Central freight train near Braceville Ohio He died after being taken to a Warren hospital He leaves six sons Daniel Union City Merton Spartansburg Floyd Macon Ga Orrin Canfield Ohyo Prank Cleveland and Arch Funeral services will be at the Davison funeral Home in Braveville with burial at the West Spring Creek cemetery on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock

Charles A. Lindbergh has outlined a four hop Atlantic crossing with all metal planes. He is to depart from the United States, stop at Greenland and Croydon, then proceed to Europe.
