Embassy Warning Sparks Criticism Over Quake Ad

Cleveland May 1 heavy earthquakes rattled St Ignatius College area with long shocks. In Washington the naval observatory reports a 45 minute intense disturbance. German embassy advised travelers to Europe to proceed cautiously, as the advert warned of danger but the embassy maintained it was a cautionary notice.

Rickards Urges Dry Camp for Pennsylvania Regiment

Colonel George C. Rickards of the Sixteenth Pennsylvania National Guard asks all officers to vote on making the annual Tadiana camp a dry camp this summer. He states he favors prohibition and requests officers to respond with their views by card. Corry officers of Company A indicated they will vote dry.

Union City Post Office Threatened By Heating Issue

An overheated heating system caused a dangerous condition at the Union City post office last evening around ten o'clock but was discovered in time to prevent a fire. Damage was chiefly smoke related with no significant structural harm reported.

Trolley Car Held Up Near Shamokin

Two desperadoes disguised held up a trolley on the Shamokin and Gilberton railway at Mt. Coco top and escaped with about 4000 dollars intended for payroll at the Walls Sike Company's Royerton plant. The passengers were bound and later freed as the robbers fled.

Board of Commerce to Meet This Afternoon

The Board of Commerce and Industry holds an afternoon meeting at the Municipal Club rooms to approve by laws and hear the Nominating Committee report. Harry Auer chairs the committee as nominations for President three Vice Presidents directors and Treasurer are prepared, with nine directors to be elected. Ballots will be distributed to members for voting and counting follows after the pro tem secretary collects them.

Warn That the Lusitania Will Be Sunk

Passengers leaving New York today received mysterious telegrams claiming the Lusitania would be torpedoed. Officials attribute the hoax to German agents, as many travelers canceled calls and the Cunard liner carried a record number of first and second class passengers.

Corry Boys Plead Guilty To Mail Charge

James Gerald Middaugh and Tay Middaugh pleaded guilty in U S District Court to sending threatening letters from Conneaut to Mrs M Waller at Corry Pennsylvania. They faced leniency considerations. Middaugh received six months in Canton Workhouse while Gerald received no mercy on the same sentence.
