City Workers Walk Out To Press Pension Plan
Philadelphia police and fire stations were not affected as 21000 nonuniformed city workers took a day off to press action on a pension plan. Union leader William McEntee urged pickets at city hall while courts remained open under Judge Vincent Carroll. The plan offers full pay after 40 years, 75 percent after 30, and 50 percent after 20, part of a 20 million package from January. Mayor Tate said no action would be taken against workers choosing to stay home.
