Suspend Verga For Thirty Days In City Police

ERTE City Council yesterday suspended Patrolman Russell Verga for 30 days without pay retroactive to March 2 on conduct unbecoming an officer. The action followed a hearing earlier this month. Verga, a key witness in prior bribery and conspiracy cases, faced testimony that he helped release a 20 year old girl from jail and took her to a tavern to question her about possible narcotics violations. The prosecution alleged another officer should have accompanied Verga during the release. The woman had been jailed for disturbing the peace.
