Judge to rule on N W crossing tie up case in Conneaut
Conneaut Ohio municipal court hears testimony this week on the Norfolk and Western crossing tie up dispute. N W conductor Francis Nay of Bellevue faces a city charge for delaying a bus loaded with Amboy Elementary students on February 29. The mayor contends the crossing delay was unnecessary and disputes whether the conductor or yardmaster is in charge in yards as crews tested air brakes and decoupled cars. Awaiting Judge Stolson’s decision, residents complain crossing blockages persist with no nearby overpass or underpass within city limits. In Titusville, 20-year-old Pfc Joseph R Bennett is listed as missing in action in Vietnam after failing to return from a combat mission, wife reports ROTC liaison from Gannon College. Bennett joined the service September 18, 1967, and arrived in Vietnam March 4.
