Measures For School Law Seek Support
Harrisburg AP The Governor's Committee of 100 For Better Education urged new legislation to accompany Pennsylvania's school district reorganization law. Five proposals aim to provide transportation subsidies for small districts, prevent subsidy losses, ensure continuity of boards and fair representation after consolidation, preserve teacher tenure, and clarify transferring assets and liabilities to new districts. Mane Wilder noted these are key legislative needs under mandatory reorganization approved by Gov. Lawr ence. The 1963 law reshuffles 2,200 districts into fewer, larger units by 1965. Opposition calls it unconstitutional for home rule, but Wilder said resistance is waning.
