Snowstorms Slow Midwest Travel Across Broad Area
Heavy snow and freezing rain spread across the upper Midwest and Plains. Tornadoes and torrential rains hit southern Plains and Mississippi Valley with flash flooding in Arkansas. The National Weather Service called the system an extremely dangerous storm with warnings across a dozen states from the Rockies to the Great Lakes. New snow piled 10 to 20 inches in South Dakota and over a foot in the Duluth Superior region, while 60 to 70 mph winds closed many highways in the Dakotas Minnesota and Wisconsin. Road crews were taken off many routes, including in Minneapolis-St Paul.
